Highly recommend if you have read Dark Victory and Long Halloween。 。。。more

Just Classic Batman!I don't think I have read these tales in about 20 years。 I miss Jeph Loeb on Batman。 While I think he put a great spin on Superman, Loeb set the foundation for all of the visual medium for Batman。 This collection of three one-shots gives us good Scarecrow and Mad Hatter Halloween stories。 My favorite was the final story with a retelling of A Christmas Carol but Halloween and Batman。 Just Classic Batman!I don't think I have read these tales in about 20 years。 I miss Jeph Loeb on Batman。 While I think he put a great spin on Superman, Loeb set the foundation for all of the visual medium for Batman。 This collection of three one-shots gives us good Scarecrow and Mad Hatter Halloween stories。 My favorite was the final story with a retelling of A Christmas Carol but Halloween and Batman。 。。。more

Batman: Haunted Knight is a collection of three one-shot specials that centers on the theme of Halloween。 Batman: Haunted Knight collects all three Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight Halloween Specials from the years 1993–1995。"Fears" (★★★★☆) has Bruce Wayne as Batman is hunting down and trying to capture Jonathan Crane as the Scarecrow。 As the title suggests, fear plays a large part in the story, with Batman nearly dying of fear while trapped in a large, poisonous thorn maze。"Madness" (★★★★☆) t Batman: Haunted Knight is a collection of three one-shot specials that centers on the theme of Halloween。 Batman: Haunted Knight collects all three Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight Halloween Specials from the years 1993–1995。"Fears" (★★★★☆) has Bruce Wayne as Batman is hunting down and trying to capture Jonathan Crane as the Scarecrow。 As the title suggests, fear plays a large part in the story, with Batman nearly dying of fear while trapped in a large, poisonous thorn maze。"Madness" (★★★★☆) tells the story of Captain James Gordon's daughter, Barbara, being kidnapped by the Jervis Tetch as the Mad Hatter and forced to participate in a twisted tea party with other kidnapped children, while Bruce Wayne as Batman and Gordon finally save Barbara and bring down the Mad Hatter。"Ghosts" (★★★☆☆)is a Batman universe version of A Christmas Carol, with Bruce's father Thomas Wayne taking the place of Jacob Marley, and the three spirits being Poison Ivy (the Ghost of Christmas Past), the Joker (the Ghost of Christmas Present), and a Grim Reaper figure (the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come) who turns out to be Batman's ghost。 The message from the spirits is that Bruce should not let Batman take over his entire life。Jeph Loeb penned the entire trade paperback。 For the most part, it is written rather well。 All three stories are written rather well。 However, while billed as Halloween stories, they have very little to do with Halloween – it just so happened that these three crimes take place on Halloween。Tim Sale penciled the entire trade paperback。 Since he was the only penciler, the artistic flow of the trade paperback flowed exceptionally well。 For the most part, Sale's penciling is rather good and depicts the narrative rather well。All in all, Batman: Haunted Knight is a wonderful collection of three Halloween Special one-shots that happened during the run of Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight。 。。。more

The artwork is stunning, dark and gritty。 A collection of three short stories set on Halloween night。 The scarecrow being my favorite。

A compelling aspect of superhero books is when the protagonist is not just punching and battling supervillains but battling his own demons。 That describes this Batman volume from writer/artists Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale。 They even have a Batman version of Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol featuring the three ghosts as three Batman rogues。 A compelling aspect of superhero books is when the protagonist is not just punching and battling supervillains but battling his own demons。 That describes this Batman volume from writer/artists Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale。 They even have a Batman version of Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol featuring the three ghosts as three Batman rogues。 。。。more

Before “The Long Halloween” raised the stakes for the superhero genre, Loeb and Sale created the three standalone stories set against Halloween collected in this volume。 Batman takes on Scarecrow in “Fears,” the Mad Hatter in “Madness” and, really, himself in “Ghosts。” Central to all three stories is Batman’s self-imposed oath to rid Gotham from the type of senseless violence that ended the lives of his parents。This theme lands most successfully in the Dickens-inspired “Ghosts,” in which Bruce W Before “The Long Halloween” raised the stakes for the superhero genre, Loeb and Sale created the three standalone stories set against Halloween collected in this volume。 Batman takes on Scarecrow in “Fears,” the Mad Hatter in “Madness” and, really, himself in “Ghosts。” Central to all three stories is Batman’s self-imposed oath to rid Gotham from the type of senseless violence that ended the lives of his parents。This theme lands most successfully in the Dickens-inspired “Ghosts,” in which Bruce Wayne is visited by three spirits overnight。 Looking at the past, present and future, they add nuance to Bruce’s loss, the mix of nobility and rage that created Batman, and the risks he poses to himself in blindly fighting his enemies。 That said, there’s not a lot of groundbreaking stuff here, so much as a precursor to what came along with the Loeb/Sale collaborations。 。。。more

I liked it, but that's it。 It was a nice collection of Halloween Batman stories, but it just didn't stand out to me。 I think it didn't click for me because I went into it expecting something else。 (Something more。。。 Halloween-ish? I'm not sure exactly。) All of the stories take a deep dive into Batman's mind, and why is he the way he is, so if that's your thing, go for it。 Anyway, I'll give a very brief review of each story collected: The first story, "Fear," was a decent start。 It involves Scare I liked it, but that's it。 It was a nice collection of Halloween Batman stories, but it just didn't stand out to me。 I think it didn't click for me because I went into it expecting something else。 (Something more。。。 Halloween-ish? This is the last of the Loeb/Sale trilogy of bat books that I have read, and as expected, I enjoyed it very much。 This was different than the others in that it was an anthology of stories instead of an overarching plot。 You can't go wrong with Loeb and Sale doing the bat though。 This is the last of the Loeb/Sale trilogy of bat books that I have read, and as expected, I enjoyed it very much。 This was different than the others in that it was an anthology of stories instead of an overarching plot。 You can't go wrong with Loeb and Sale doing the bat though。 。。。more

Batman and Halloween go together like peas and carrots。 I thought the decision to embrace 'A Christmas Carol' in Part III was a little odd, but the first two volumes are solid, and it ended on a relatively upbeat note which I enjoyed。 Batman and Halloween go together like peas and carrots。 I thought the decision to embrace 'A Christmas Carol' in Part III was a little odd, but the first two volumes are solid, and it ended on a relatively upbeat note which I enjoyed。 。。。more

Very solid collection of one-off Batman stories。 I think Loeb and Sale are my favourite writer/artist combo for Batman so I might be a little biased。 This isn’t exactly something I would recommend anyone to run out and buy, as its three Halloween-based stories are all pretty inconsequential, but if you’re like me and love Loeb/Sale’s take on Batman, you’ll probably really enjoy this book。

Three stories, each set on Hallowe'en, featuring some of Batman's most iconic villains, including Scarecrow, Mad Hatter, Penguin, Poison Ivy and the Joker。The first of these stories has an exhausted Batman chasing the Scarecrow across Gotham whilst in his other life as Bruce Wayne he meets a woman who could persuade him to never answer the Bat-signal again。 The second story sees young (pre-Batgirl) Barbara Gordon falling into the hands of the insane child-killer Mad Hatter after running away fro Three stories, each set on Hallowe'en, featuring some of Batman's most iconic villains, including Scarecrow, Mad Hatter, Penguin, Poison Ivy and the Joker。The first of these stories has an exhausted Batman chasing the Scarecrow across Gotham whilst in his other life as Bruce Wayne he meets a woman who could persuade him to never answer the Bat-signal again。 The second story sees young (pre-Batgirl) Barbara Gordon falling into the hands of the insane child-killer Mad Hatter after running away from her father。 Finally, in a twist on Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol', a sick and delirious Bruce Wayne is visited by spirits of Hallowe'en past, present and future。I have to say that I loved this collection。 The stories are all just long enough that they don't feel unnecessarily complex whilst still having enough time to develop their themes effectively。 Tim Sale's artwork is brilliantly atmospheric too and at times the fact that it's near-monochrome really plays into the gothic sensibilities of the stories。It certainly doesn't hurt that this book features some of the most famous members of Batman's rogues gallery, with the story focusing on the Mad Hatter being my personal favourite of the lot。 The Hatter is one of the sillier Batman villains on paper (so to speak) but here his insanity and predilection for preying on children makes him a truly chilling antagonist。 We also get a nice reveal of how the Hatter, of all villains, actually provokes a particularly deep emotional response in Batman。* More reviews here: https://fsfh-book-review2。webnode。com/ * 。。。more

Have you ever found yourself dragging your feet through a book? That’s what 90% of Haunted Knight felt like for me。 The only saving grace was the fact that the final of three one-shots was a spin on Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol。 I’m a sucker for that, I must admit。 I love Loeb and Sale but I wouldn’t even come close to equating this with anything along the lines of Long Halloween or even Dark Victory。 Definitely not one I’d recommended for new readers but it is a nice companion read for se Have you ever found yourself dragging your feet through a book? Loeb and Sale are always a top notch team。 This did not disappoint。 Broken into three sections, in the first installment Batman takes on Scarecrow。 In the second, the Mad Hatter and lastly it becomes a Christmas Carol Halloween style featuring Poison Ivy and the Joker。 The last arc really is great with a twist on the classic tale。 As it is presented, the first two don’t feel long enough to me and thusly the 4-star rating。

I loved each of the three stories but the first would be my favourite。 The art was fantastic as well!

The best of these Loeb/Sale Batman joints。 They carry some of the other unfortunate trappings of those books and the period as a whole; namely, being gross and shitty with regards to the “mental illness” of the villains (a problem that still needs desperate correction) and Batman who is generally much more brutish and violence-driven than is to my liking。 The narration and dialogue as a whole is also fairly surface-level, plain, and simple。 However, there are a number of moments that elevate thi The best of these Loeb/Sale Batman joints。 They carry some of the other unfortunate trappings of those books and the period as a whole; namely, being gross and shitty with regards to the “mental illness” of the villains (a problem that still needs desperate correction) and Batman who is generally much more brutish and violence-driven than is to my liking。 The narration and dialogue as a whole is also fairly surface-level, plain, and simple。 However, there are a number of moments that elevate this for me, especially in the last story, which serves to establish in its own continuity one of my favorite Gotham/Batman elements (an element that honestly is essential, in my view)。 And the art is once again EXCEPTIONAL。 Sale’s interior work in this period is great stuff。 。。。more
